The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C46 has successfully launched RISAT-2B satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. The vehicle was on its 72nd launch and 36th launch from the First Launch pad. The PSLV-C46 was designed in its core alone version minus the strap-on motors.

IMPORTANT FEATURES OF RISAT-2B.

RISAT -2B, is a radar imaging satellite developed and designed by U.R.RAO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, a department of the Indian Space Research Organization.The satellite has a low cost and light processor called Vikram. It has a complex 3.6 meter unfurable antennae .The satellite is an all season device it is equipped with an active Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).It enables the satellite to capture an image in a worst weather conditions.This all weather imagining feature will be of great help for armed forces as it picks up the images of bunkers and other suspicious structures and will be of tremendous help in weather forecasting. So it will help agriculture and in disaster control. This is the third Indian RISAT in ten years, the first was Israeli- built RISAT-2 in 2009 and in 2012 ISRO- built RISAT-1. The older two are no more functional.
