This is seventh time in a row that India has defeated Pakistan in a World Cup. Second time at the same venue after 20 years.

  • This is Rohit’s 24th century, second in the World Cup. This is his second century against Pakistan. This was his third ton in the World Cups. The first was against Bangladesh in 2015 World Cup. Rohit also made his fastest 50. It came in just 34 balls.
  • In this match he scored 140 runs of 113 balls and was well supported by K L Rahul and Virat Kohli. The former scored 57 and the later 77.
  • Rohit broke the record of Virat Kohli of highest individual scorer in a World Cup against Pakistan.
  • The 136 runs partnership between Rohit and Rahul broke the 23 years old record of 90 runs openning partnership that was between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar in the quarterfinal of 1996 World Cup.
  • This is fourth hundred or more runs partnership by Indians against Pakistan in the World Cup. First was in 2003 World Cup, between Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammed Kaif. Two were in 2015’s World Cup between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli.
  • This is Rohit’s third fifty plus runs in a World Cup consecutively. He joined the league of Navjot Singh Sidhu (1986), Sachin Tendulkar( 1996) and Yuvraj Singh(2011). They all have scored more than three fifty plus scores in a World Cup.
  • Vijay Shankar became first Indian to take a wicket on the very first ball of his over in a World Cup. He claimed the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq. . He became the third cricketer to do so in last 44 years.
  • In 2003 World Ian Harvey of Australia was the first bowler to do so he took the wicket of Saleem Elahi of Pakistan. Malachi Jones of Bermuda claimed the wicket of Robin Uthappa in 2007 World Cup and became the second bowler.
  • The coincidence is that Ian Harvey was the replacement of Shane Watson and Vijay Shankar completed the over of Bhuvenshwar Kumar both of them were injured during a match.
  • Virat Kohli joined the eleven thousand runs club. He became the quickest to reach here. He took 54 innings less in comparison to Tendulkar.
