THE PRITZKER PRIZE 2020

THE ARCHITECT OF THE GRAFTON BUILDING OF BOCCNI UNIVERSITY WINNER OF 2020 PRITZKER PRIZE-YVONNE FARRELL AND SHELLEY MCNAMARA.

The Pritzker Architecture Prize, the Noble Prize of Architecture was instituted in 1971 by Jay and Cindy Pritzker. Awarded for the achievement in the art of architecture. The award is financed by the Pritzer Family through their Hyatt Foundation. The award is awarded irrespective of Nationality, Ideology, Religion and Sex. The laureate receives $ 100,000 and a bronze medallion. The medallion was introduced in 1987, the designed was inspired by the work of architect Louis Sullivan. On the reverse side of the medal, Latin words are engraved i.e Firmitas, Utilitas, Venustas means Firmness, Commodity and Delight. Pre-1987, the monetary prize with Henry Moore’s sculpture was given. The first winner of the Pritzker Prize was Philip Johnson in 1979. The only Indian who won this award is Balkrishna Doshi in 2018 and the winner of 2020 are Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara of Ireland for the Grafton Building of Bocconi University.
