LIN DAN BECAME THE FIRST MEN’S SINGLES PLAYER IN BADMINTON WHO SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED HIS OLYMPIC TITLE. HE WON HIS FIRST SINGLES GOLD MEDAL AT BEIJING OLYMPICS IN 2008 AND RETAINED IT AT THE LONDON OLYMPICS IN 2012.
Super Dan, the greatest badminton player of all time announced his retirement from the international arena. The domination that had lasted for 20 years began in 2000. He signed off his international career with 666 singles win. It includes two Olympic gold medals, five world championships and six All- England Championships. By the age of 28, he became the first and the only player who had won all the major world titles in Badminton. In 2017, after winning the Malaysian Open his shelf was completed with the All-World Titles. The name Super Dan was given to him by his opponent Peter Gade in 2004. One of the greatest rivalries in the history of badminton was between Chinese Lin Dan and his Malaysian counterpart Lee Chong Wei. Dan always had an upper hand. They met 40 times at international level and Lee Chong Wei was defeated in 28 matches. In 2006 and 2007 he won the Eddie Choong Player Of The Year Award. The BWF Best Male Player Of The Year In 2008. In 2010 Most Valuable Player In Asian Games. In 2011 he was chosen for CCTV Sports Personality Of The Year for 2010.
