Raghbir Singh Bhola was a member of the Indian hockey teams that won Gold and Silver medals at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956 and Rome Olympics 1960 died recently. He was 92 years old.

Group Captain Bhola was born on 21st August 1927 in Multan now in Pakistan. A graduate in Aeronautical Engineering from DELHI COLLEGE OF ENGEERING in 1952.

In 1962, Indian Airforce sent him to Cranfield University the United Kingdom from where he Post Graduated in Electrical Engineering and retired from Airforce in 1978.

SPORTS CAREER-

His first appearance was in 1953, when he played for Services. The team that become National Champion followed by his selection in 1954 in the national team. India won Gold in 1956 and Silver in 1960 Olympics he was member of both the teams.

POST RETIREMENT-

He was a National Selector in Indian Hockey Federation for nine years. He was an international umpire for five years.

He was the manager of national hockey team that toured and participated in international tournaments. The government of India also appointed him as an observer in the last decade of 90’s it included 1994 hockey World Cup and the Asian Games of till late 1998.
