Dr. MADHURI KANITKAR BECOME’S THIRD WOMAN Lt.GENERAL IN INDIAN ARMY.

Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, former dean of the Armed Force Medical College become’s the first woman pediatrician to be elevated to the rank of Lt. General in Indian Army. The first woman dean of the Armed Force Medical College, is also a member of the Prime minister’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Board. Lt.General Rajiv Kanitkar and her became the first couple in the army to hold the same rank. The three star rank refers to the second most position in the three divisions of the armed forces i.e Lt. General in the army, Air Marshal in Air Force and Vice Admiral in the Navy.

Vice Admiral Punita Arora became the first woman in India to be elevated to the rank of Lt. General and she was first woman surgeon Vice Admiral of the Indian Navy. The first woman officer to command the Armed Force Medical College. She moved from Army to Navy as the Armed Force Medical College has a common pool that facilitates an officer to migrate from one service to another depending on the requirements .

Padmavathy Bandhopadhya, became the first woman to be elevated to the rank of Air Marshal in the Indian Air Force. Became the second woman in the Indian Armed forces to be elevated to the three star rank. First woman to become a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Society of India and the first Indian woman to have conducted scientific research at the North Pole. The first woman Armed Forces officer to have completed the Defence Service Staff College course . She was appointed as the Director General Medical Services (Air) at the Air Headquarters. The first woman to be promoted to Air vice Marshal the two-star rank and then to become the first woman Air Marshal of Indian Air Force . An aviation medicine specialist and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences. Sati Nath Bandhopadhyay and Padmavathy became the first couple in the Air Force to receive the President’s award in the same investiture parade.
