UNITED STATES COMMISSION ON INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS REPORT-2020

The United States Commission On International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) was established by the government of the United States Of America in 1998 after the enactment of the International Religious Freedom Act. The recommendations made by the institution is non-binding to the State Departments. The first recommendation was set in 2000. The countries are divided into three categories. These are CPC- Countries Particular Concern, SWL-Special Watch List and EPC- Entities Of Particular Concern. In the annual report of 2020, for the first time since 2004 that India is placed in Countries Of Particular Concern (TIER-1) category. The report of 2020 assesses religious freedom violations and progress during the calendar year 2019.


THE CRITERIA FOR COUNTRIES PARTICULAR CONCERN, SPECIAL WATCH LIST COUNTRIES AND ENTITIES OF PARTICULAR CONCERN

  • Torture or Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment Or Punishment.
  • Prolonged Detention Without Charges.
  • Causing The Disappearance Of Person By The Abduction or Clandestine Detention Of Those Persons.
  • Other Flagrant Denial Of The Right To Life, Liberty, Or The Security Of Persons.
