THE ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION.
The 46th session of ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION was held at ABU DHABHI in The UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.
The session was Chaired by Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen.For first time India was Guest Of Honour. The minister for External Affairs Mrs.Sushma Swaraj represented India.
The ORGANISATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION was founded in 1972 is the second largest organisation after the United Nations.The former has 57 countries as the members.Except Palestine all the state members are members of the United Nations.The countries like Russia and Thailand chair as observers.Though the population of muslims in India is between 14-15% but India is not its member.
The main objectives of the institution are to establish cooperation in the field of science and technology along with the exchange of cultures and conserve the islamic values.
Structure of the Institution.
The organisation is headed by a Secretary General and the Permanent Secretariat is at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.The first secretary general was Tunku Abdul Rahman of Malaysia.The Foreign Ministers of the member countries have to meet once in a year and the Islamic Summit is convene after three years which is attended by the Head of the States and the Kings.
