MARTIN ENNALS AWARD.
The Martin Ennal Award is also famous as the Nobel Prize For Human Rights instituted in 1993.It was named after a famous British Human Rights Activist MARTIN ENNALS.He was the Secretary General of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL for more then a decade from 1968-1980.During his tenure the AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL was awarded by ERASMUS PRIZE in 1976,the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE in 1977 and the UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD in 1978.He was one of the brains behind the International Alert in 1985 and Article 19 of the British Human Rights Organisation 1987.
Martin Ennal Human Rights Defender Award was started in the year 1993.Since then this award is providing shelter and protection to those human right activists whose lives are at risk.
The jury panel comprises of AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL,HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH,EVANGELISCHES WERK FUR DIAKONIE UND ENTWICKLUNG, OMCT,ICJ,ISHR,HURIDOCS,HUMAN RIGHTS FIRST,FRONTLINE DEFENDERS and FIDH.
REGIONAL JURIST ARE-ASIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION,EAST and HORN OF AFRICA HUMANRIGHTS DEFENDERS PROJECT FORUM,AFRICIAN CENTRE for DEMOCRACY and HUMAN RIGHTS STUDIES,HUMAN RIGHTS HOUSE FOUNDATION,CIVIL RIGHTS DEFENDERS,EURO-MEDITERRANEAN NETWORK FOR HUMAN RIGHTS and CAIRO INSTITUTE for HUMAN RIGHTS.
The first award was given in the year 1994 since then the winners are from different countries…….
