HISTORY.

The award Order Of St.Andrew The Apostle The First Called was established by Czar Peter I of Russia in 1698, in honour of Saint Andrew,the first apostle of Jesus in Russian Empire.But the award was abolished following the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 and was reinstated in 1998 by former Russian President Boris Yeltsin in July 1998.

SELECTION CRITERIA.

This award is not restricted to the Russians but open for foreigners too.The prominent statesmen, public figures,eminent scientists and to the people for their exceptional contribution in the field of art,culture and industries and promoting the prosperity, grandeur and glory of Russia.The Indian Prime Minister was awarded for his exceptional services in promoting special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and friendly relations between the Russians and Indians.

THE BADGE.

The badge has a double-headed eagle attached to a chain called a collar. Worn around the neck on special ceremonies,or more commonly on a 100mm-wide blue sash worn over the right shoulder and a star worn on the left breast.The crossed swords are added below the crown above the two eagle’s heads. There is a motto За веру и верность means For Faith and Loyalty inscribed on the reverse of the eagle on a white ribbon.
