FIRST OBSERVANT SIKH TO GRADUATE FROM U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY-ANMOL NARANG

Second Lieutenant Anmol Narang created the history by becoming the first observant Sikh to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy. After completion of her Basic Officer Leadership Course, her first posting will be the Kadena airbase inĀ  Okinawa, Japan in 2021. In 1976, women were allowed to join the Academy. Since then several women of Indian origin have graduated from the Academy. Sneha Singh in 2017, Neha Valluri in 2018 and Simran Patil in 2019 graduated from the Academy. In 1987 U.S Congress passed a law, the law prohibited Sikhs and other religious communities from maintaining their articles of faith while serving in the military.
