1975-THE PRUDENTIAL CRICKET WORLD CUP. THE FIRST WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT.

The first Cricket World Cup was officially called as the Prudential Cricket World Cup. The first ever major limited overs international tournament of cricket played in English Summer.The England was the host.The official sponsor was Prudential Assurance Company. Participating nations were Australia,England,West Indies,India,New Zealand were the six Test Playing nations.whereas Sri-Lanka and East Africa were two associate nations.The tournament was played in Whites and with Red Ball each match was of 60 overs in each innings.The Final’s was played between West Indies and Australia at Lord’s.Clive Lloyd’s West Indies won the tournament.

The leading scorer of the tournament was Glen Turner of New Zealand he scored 333 runs in that tournament and the highest wicket taker bowler was Gary Gilmour of Australia he took 11 wickets.The Man Of The Match was West Indian Captain Clive Llyod for his brilliant hundred in the Final’s.

1979- THE SECOND PRUDENTIAL CRICKET WORLD CUP.

It was the second Cricket World Cup hosted by England.The final’s was played at Lord’s and was between the hosts and the mighty West Indies.Again the West Indies emerged as winner.Winning Captain was Clive Llyod.

The Man Of The Match The leading run scorer was Gordon Greenidge of West Indies,he scored 253 runs and the leading wicket taker bowler was Mike Hendrick of England.He took 10 wickets. The Man Of The Match in the final was Viv Richards of West Indies for century not out.

1983-THIRD PRUDENTIAL CRICKET WORLD CUP.THE TOURNAMENT THAT TRANSFORMED INDIAN CRICKET.

England and Wales were the host of the 3rd edition of the World Cup.The final’s was at the Lord’s.Between mighty West Indies and India.India won and lifted the Cup.Kapil Dev became the youngest Captain to lift the trophy.

David Grower of England became the leading run getter.He scored 384. Roger Binny emerged as highest wicket taking bowler.He took 18 wickets.Whereas Mohinder Amarnath was awarded Man Of The Match award for his scintillating performance in the final’s.He made 21 valuble runs and took 3 important wickets.

1987-THE RELIANCE WORLD CUP.

This fourth edition of the tournament for the first time was hosted outside England and was co-hosted by India and Pakistan.Reliance Industries was its official sponsor of the mega event.Nothing was changed except the number of overs were changed to 50.The final’s was at Eden Gardens at Calcutta(now Kolkata).Australia defeated their arch rivals England.Australia was captained by Allan Border.

Graham Gooch of England scored 471 runs in the tournament and became the highest run scorer.Craig Mc Dermott of Australia took 18 wicket and became highest wicket taking bowler of the tournament.David Boon scored 75 runs in the final and was the Man Of The Match.

1992-THE BENSON&HEDGES WORLD CUP.

Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the fifth edition of the World Cup.The official sponsors were Benson and Hedges.The final was at Melbourne Cricket Ground,Melbourne between Pakistan and England.Imran Khan was the captain of Pakistan’s Cricket Team.For the first time the matches were played under floodlights with white ball and black side screens.in this tournament first time players appeared in coloured dress.South Africa played it first World Cup after 21 years. The Apartheid ended there.The format of the game was changed too.Robin Round replaced the two Qualifying groups.The concept of Average Run Rate and the Most Productive Overs was introduced for rain affected matches.This method was renamed as Duckworth-lewis-Stern Method in 2014.

Martin Crowe of New Zealand was the Player Of The Series as he scored 456 runs.While Pakistan’s Wasim Akram was the highest wicket taking bowler.He took 18 wickets.Out of which 3 were in the final’s against England.He also added 33 runs to the teams total.He was given the Man Of The Match award in the final.

1996-THE WILLS WORLD CUP.

The sixth edition of the World Cup was organized in the Indian Sub Continent.India along with Pakistan and Sri-Lanka(for the first time) hosted the mega event.The Sponsor was ITC’s WILLS brand.Sri-Lanka defeated Australia at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and captain Arjuna Ranatunga lifted the trophy.Gary Kirsten scored 188 runs against United Arab Emirates at Rawalpindi.It became the highest ever individual score in a World Cup.It was first surpassed by Chris Gayle of West Indies who scored 215 runs and the by Martin Guptill of New Zealand who scored 237 runs in 2015’s ICC Cricket World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar of India scored 523 runs and became the leading scorer of the 96 world cup.Anil Kumble took 15 wickets and topped the bowler’s list.

The Player Of The Series was Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri-Lanka as he scored 221 runs and took 7 wickets.The Man Of The Match was Aravinda De Silva of Sri-Lanka for his century in the final.

1999-THE FIRST ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP.

This seventh edition of the World Cup was officially called as ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP.The host for the World Cup was the England.But some of the matches were played Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the Netherlands too.The final’s was at Lords between Australia and Pakistan.Steve Waugh lifted the trophy. Australia became world champions for second time.For the first time the permanent trophy was introduced.It was designed by Paul Marsden of Garrard & Co. in London.

The World Cup trophy is made from silver and gold. The golden globe is held by three silver columns. The columns are in shape of stumps and bails, represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket i.e batting, bowling and fielding, while the globe represents a cricket ball. Height 60 cm and weights nearly 11 kilograms.A replica is permanently awarded to the winning team.

Rahul Dravid of India scored 461 runs in the 99 World Cup and topped the batting charts.While in bowling Geoff Allott of New Zealand and Australian Shane Warne both took 20 wickets each.

In 99 World Cup, Lance Klusener of South Africa was the Player Of The Series as he scored 281 runs and took 17 wickets and Australian Shane Warne was Man Of The Match in the final’s as he bowled out 4 batsmen in the final.

2003-THE EIGHTH EDITION OF ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP.

The eighth edition of the ICC-World Cup was co-hosted by South Africa,Kenya and Zimbabwe.The first edition of the World Cup hosted by Africa.In this tournament 14 teams participated.For the first time a mascot was designed. The name was Dazzle.The final was played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg between Australia and India.Australia won its third world cup title and second in the row.Ricky Ponting was the skipper of Australian team.

Sachin Tendulkar of India was the Player Of The Series.He occupied numero uno slot as he scored 673 runs and took 2 wickets.Chaminda Vaas of Sri-Lanka was highest wicket taking bowler he took 23 wickets.The Man Of The Match in the final’s was Ricky Ponting for his brilliant 140 runs not out.

2007-THE NINTH EDITION OF ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP.

West Indies hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time.In this ninth edition of the tournament 16 teams had participated. It is the highest number of participation in the history of the World Cup and Mello was the mascot.The history was repeated in the final’s. The final was played between Australia and Sri-Lanka at Kensington Oval,Bridgetown,Barbados.This was second appearance of Sri-Lanka against Australia.These sides had previously met in 1996 World Cup final.Australia won its fourth World Cup title and third consecutive title. Became first team to do so.In final’s Adam Gilchrist 149 runs and it became the highest score by any batsman in a World Cup final.One new record was made Australia won 29 consecutive World Cup matches without a single loss.After Clive Llyod, Ricky Ponting became the second captain to lift the World Cup trophy twice in a row.

The leading scorer of 2007 World Cup was Australia’s Matthew Hayden he scored 659 runs in the tournament.Glen McGrath the Australian quicky was Player Of The Series he took 26 wickets and it is a record.The Man Of The Match was wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist for his century in the finals.He became the second Australian after Ricky Ponting to hit a century in World Cup final’s.

2011-THE ICC WORLD CUP RETURNS TO INDIAN SUB CONTINENT.

India along with Sri-Lanka and Bangladesh( first time) jointly hosted the tenth edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.The Stumpy was the mascot.The final was played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai between India and Sri-Lanka.It was for the first time that two Asian Nations clashed in the World Cup final.India became the first host nation to win the title.Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only captain in the history of cricket whose has won all the ICC Trophies i.e ICC World Cup ,ICC Champions Trophy and T-20 World Cup.After 1992 it was for the first time that Australia didnot make to the final’s. Mahela Jayawardene became the fifth batsman to hit a century in the World Cup final.

Tillakratne Dilshan of Sri-Lanka was the leading run scorer.He scored 500 run in the tournament and india’s seamer Zaheer Khan and Pakistan’s leg spinner Shahid Afridi took 21 wickets each.

Yuvraj Singh of India was the Player Of The Series for his all-round performance.He made 362 runs and took 15 wickets. The Man Of The Match was Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

2015-ICC WORLD CUP IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND.

The eleventh edition of the ICC tournament returned to southern hemisphere after 23 years.Jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Australia won its fifth World Cup title captained by Michael Clarke.They defeated New Zealand at Melbourne Cricket Ground,Melbourne.The concept of Super Over was reinstated in January 2015 in case if there was tie in the World Cup final’s.

For the first time two double centuries were scored in the mega event.West Indian Chris Gayle was the first to score a double hundred (215 runs) against Zimbabwe(fastest in the world) and the New Zealander Martin Guptill became the second.He made 237 runs against West Indies.

New Zealand’s Martin Guptill scored 547 run including a double century against West-Indies.Pacemen Trent Boult of New Zealand and Mitchell Starc of Australia took 22 wickets each.

Mitchell Starc took 22 wickets and was Player Of The Series.James Faulkner was the Man Of The Match for his all-round performance.He made 36 runs and took 3 crucial wickets.

Nitish Kumar of Canada played his first World Cup match at an age of 16 years,283 days in 2011.While Nolan Clarke played his first World Cup match at an age of 47 years,257 days in 1996.

In the 2011 Kevin O’Brien scored a 100 runs against England just in 50 balls it was the fastest century in World Cup.Chris Gayle in 2015’s World Cup hit a 215 against Zimbabwe just in 138 balls was fastest double hundred.Ricky Ponting became the youngest batsman to score a century in a World Cup.In 1996 World Cup he scored 102 runs of 112 balls against West Indies.

Ricky Pointing has played 5 World Cups(first in 1996) and has dismissed 28 players. Wicket Keeper Kumara Sangakkara has played 4 World Cups(first in 2003) has dismissed 54 players.
